The Aboriginal Crisis Counselling Centre is located at 681 Bloor Street. We work closely with the Gerstein Centre, and the entire Metro Crisis Response Team. We will seek to build social connections and reduce potential episodes of crisis in Aboriginal clients by operating a "storefront walk-in" program on specific days of the week, during specific times for Aboriginal clients. We will provide a program of crisis prevention through a combination for assessment of risk and through a series of crisis prevention mini-workshops. Such activities are aimed at assisting the Aboriginal client to develop better coping skills for dealing with their issues.
Aboriginal Crisis Intervention counsellors are on duty 8:30 am to 6:00 pm during weekdays. At 6:00 pm the phones will be forwarded to the Gerstein Centre who will answer crisis calls from 6:00 pm until 8:30 am. Our role will be to provide cultural expertise in assisting Aboriginal people to resolve crisis situations and provide follow-up on the Aboriginal individuals who have experienced a crisis.
